The HOPE Nursing Success Scholarship

The HOPE Nursing Success Scholarship provides 33 renewable scholarships awarded at $5,000 ($2,500/semester) to full-time lower-division freshman and sophomore nursing majors enrolled in the Mary Black College of Nursing’s BSN track. The scholarship seeks to support students from an ethnic or minority background with legal US citizenship or permanent residency status in efforts to encourage degree completion. Priority will be given to students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds as identified on FASFA. Additionally, new incoming freshmen must be admitted with a 3.0 high school GPA; Transfer students and existing students must also have a 3.0 GPA.

To receive the scholarship, applicants must meet the requirements above, in addition to providing a 500-word (maximum) statement of commitment to the Mary Black College of Nursing BSN program to become employed as a registered nurse in an underserved community.

Furthermore, the applicant must agree to participate in the HOPE Nursing Success Scholarship requirements, including but not limited to advisory meetings, retention specialist meetings, and attend/actively participate in experiences and events for the Mary Black School of Nursing.
- Pre-immersion experience
- Satisfactory completion of rural health elective
- Affinity group meetings for the living-learning community regardless of residency status
- Monthly meetings with retention specialist or success coach
- Meet twice per term with your academic advisor
- Serve as a peer mentor upon request

A copy of your unofficial transcript is also requested.

The scholarship may be renewable if the student remains in the nursing program, maintains a 3.0 GPA, and actively participates in all meetings, experiences, and events as requested, and writes a thank you letter expressing gratitude for the scholarship and the impact it has made on your college education.

This scholarship awards up to $5,000.
